Courses
Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Electrical & Electronics Engineering is one of the core branches of engineering studies started as Electrical Engineering. Most of the branches like Electronics & (Tele) Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Applied Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Information Technology have been emerged as specialization from Electrical Engineering. However, with the wide applications of Electronics in controlling and protecting the Electrical equipments and systems, the course has been renamed as Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
The major thrust in this course is related to the basic principles and detailed analysis of different types of equipments and systems for generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of Electrical Energy. The course also covers the study of electronic devices and circuits involved in measurement, instrumentation, control and protection of electrical equipments and conversion systems. Concept of computer and recent applications of computer based systems in design, analysis and efficient operation of power system, maintaining quality and security is also included in the course.
Job Opportunities:
Electrical & Electronics engineering graduates find jobs in power stations, whether atomic, hydro or thermal power plants and in large industries as engineers and managers. An electrical engineer is responsible for installation, maintenance and operation of power handling equipments and systems. Industries manufacturing large electrical machines and equipments employ electrical & electronics engineers in design, production and testing of electrical equipments. They get jobs in public and private sector industries such as railways, civil aviation, and all types of manufacturing plants. They can also get into teaching in India or abroad or continue with research in laboratories.
Civil Engineering
Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings. Civil engineering is the oldest engineering discipline after military engineering, and it was defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering. It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, municipal or urban engineering, water resources engineering, materials engineering, coastal engineering, surveying, and construction engineering. Civil engineering takes place on all levels: in the public sector from municipal through to state & central government levels, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.
Job opportunities
There is no one typical career path for civil engineers. Most engineering graduates start with jobs of low responsibility as junior engineer. In some fields and firms, entry-level engineers are put to work primarily monitoring construction in the field, assisting senior design engineers. More senior engineers can move into doing more complex analysis or design work, or management of more complex design projects, or management of teams of engineers. Civil engineers find jobs in public works departments, railways, private construction companies, water-supply companies, petro-chemical companies, highway authorities. Civil engineers can also have private consultancy in building design and construction.
Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering
Electronics is a branch of science and technology that deals with the flow of electrons through nonmetallic conductors, mainly semiconductors such as silicon. It is distinct from electrical science and technology, which deal with the flow of electrons and other charge carriers through metal conductors such as copper.
Telecommunication is the assisted transmission over a distance for the purpose of communication. In earlier times, this may have involved the use of smoke signals, drums, semaphore, flags or heliograph. In modern times, telecommunication typically involves the use of electronic equipments such as the telephone, television, radio or computer.
Electronics & Telecommunication engineering is the discipline that is considered to be an off-shoot of Electrical Engineering. It mainly focuses on the study, analysis and design of electronics devices, circuits and systems with major application to communication devices and systems. The telecommunication aspect deals with the theory and design of electronic communication systems including telephony, television, mobile communication systems, radio communication, computer communication and satellite communication. It also deals with, electronic devices and circuit design, control systems, electronics and telecommunications, computer systems, embedded software.
Job opportunities
Electronics & Telecommunication engineers find jobs in telecommunication companies, computer companies, electronic equipment manufacturing companies, public sector and government telecommunication and electronics firms, railways, power companies, petrochemical industries.
Computer Science & Engineering
Computer science is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation, and of practical techniques for their implementation and application in computer systems. It is frequently described as the systematic study of algorithmic processes that describe and transform information. Computer Science & Engineering is a discipline that combines both Electronics Engineering and Computer Science. Computer engineers usually have training in electronics engineering, software design and hardware-software integration instead of only software engineering or electronics engineering. Computer engineers are involved in many aspects of computing, from the design of individual microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers, to circuit design. This field of engineering not only focuses on how computer systems themselves work, but also how they integrate into the larger picture.
Usual tasks involving computer engineers include writing software and firmware for embedded microcontrollers, designing VLSI chips, designing analog sensors, designing mixed signal circuit boards, and designing operating systems.
Job opportunities
Computer engineers are employed in software companies, banks, insurance companies, telecommunication industries, public sector and government setups. The job designation includes programmers, analyst-programmer, System Analyst, System administrator, System Manager or Project Manager.
